Frontline and The Center for Public Integrity have investigated the flaws in the American oral health care system in a documentary that airs tonight.

Dollars and Dentists” looks at the lack of access to care for poor children, despite the fact that Medicaid will pay for their dental care. It also finds that other kids receive excessive care that is then billed to Medicaid.

In addition, adults are seeking dental care in emergency rooms and corporate dental chains are “in some cases, allegedly overcharging patients or loading them with high priced credit card debt.”

Mary Otto, AHCJ’s new oral health topic leader, will help host a live web chat tomorrow (Wednesday, June 27) with the show’s producers at 2:30 p.m. ET. Otto invites health journalists to weigh in on the chat with their questions and their own observations.
